Ground-breaking Back-Illuminated Stacked CMOS Sensor
Experience lightning-fast image capture and enhanced responsiveness with the R3. Designed to capture all of the action and super high-speed sports, the R3 features a ground-breaking back-illuminated stacked 24.1MP CMOS sensor.
The stacked back-illuminated CMOS sensor improves image quality, imaging speed and low-light capabilities whilst also being more compact in size. This also makes the sensor capable of faster readout rates, allowing the R3 to capture super-fast, high-resolution images in a body that’s easy to handle and transport around.
World’s Fastest Shutter Speed*
Capture everything from super-slow-motion trails at 30 seconds and instantly freeze the action with the world’s fastest shutter speed of 1/64000th of a second. Experience high-frequency anti-flicker shooting with the R3 and never miss the action through the 5.76 million dot electronic viewfinder which has a refresh rate of up to 120fps at full resolution.

AF/AE Tracking up to 30 fps
Experience full AF/AE tracking in RAW with options of shooting up to 30fps and 15fps. The shutter lag is as low as 20ms and the R3 can power up and be ready to use within 0.4 seconds. Meaning, you’ll never miss that action shot ever again!
Enhanced AF Tracking for Animals, Humans and Motorsport
Powered by Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and with a totally revised new AF algorithm, the R3 is capable of eye detection in both animals and humans along with a vehicle tracking function that’s compatible with an open cockpit on Formula 1 cars as well as GT and Rally cars.
The R3 allows you to prioritise the vehicle or driver/rider helmet and can focus as fast as 0.03m, which is the fastest in the EOS R series to date.
6K 60p RAW Video
Capture up to 6K 60p in RAW with the Canon EOS R3. 4K footage is also available up to 60p and comes from oversampled 6K for increased dynamic range and exceptional detail. This 4K or RAW video footage can be captured internally to a CFexpress card. Capture super-slow-motion video up to 120p in 4K and record up to 6 hours of regular video or 1.5 hours at high 120/100p frame rates.
Professional Video Capabilities
The R3 features Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ for capturing a high dynamic range that it is easily edited in post-production. Full AF tracking is supported in the R3 whilst filming and includes the tracking of vehicles in all modes.
Control the AF Point Selection with your Eye
Instantaneously and instinctively control the AF point with just your eye with the Canon EOS R3. Unique eye control AF gives you unparalleled control of the camera’s AF and allows the camera to react as quickly as you do to ever-changing scenes.
Image Stabilisation
Shoot with confidence and in very low light with the R3. With a working ISO range of 100-102,400 (expanding to 204,800) the R3 is capable of focusing in up to -7.5 EV. Experience image stabilisation of up to 8-stops with the camera’s own sensor-shift IS works in tandem with the optical IS that’s already built-in to many of Canon’s RF lenses. Allowing you to capture sharp images, handheld, in very dim light and with long shutter speeds.
Professional Build
The magnesium-alloy body of the R3 offers the same levels of dust and drip performance, providing professionals with peace of mind when working in all weathers. The R3 also features the same trusted grip that we see in the EOS-1D series.
The R3 features dual card slots to allow image files to be written to both SD or CFexpress cards.
All New Multi-functional Hotshoe
A new 21-pin multi-functional shoe is compatible with newly launched accessories, the Canon Directional Microphone, the super-compact Canon Speedlite Transmitter and the Canon Hot-shoe Adapter and will also operate with third-party XLR adapters.
The new multi-functional hot-shoe enhances high-speed data communication and allows the powering of compatible accessories directly from the camera itself. The new multi-functional hot-shoe is still compatible with the conventional hot-shoe mount found on other Canon EOS series cameras.
A Familiar Feel
The R3 features the LP-E19 battery which is the same as you’ll find in the EOS-1DX III camera (no longer available). This and along with the cameras familiar and intuitive menu system and button layout, ensures that the R3 can fit right in alongside existing equipment.
Seamless Integration with Canon RF Lenses
Customise your shooting experience with three customisable dials on the camera plus a Lens Control Ring on each RF mount lens. Allowing you to adjust shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure compensation whilst having the camera pulled up to your eye.
Vari-angle Screen
A much sought after and desired feature, the R3’s vari-angle touchscreen LCD monitor allows you to easily compose your shots with a creative perspective.
Connectivity
A vital element of sports and news photographers, the EOS R3 features a wired LAN socket and 5GHz Wi-Fi for communication to networks, laptops and mobile devices. Making it fast than ever before for image sharing. The EOS R3 is also compatible with the Canon Mobile File Transfer app which allows pro photographers to add metadata to images and to transfer them from to a smartphone.
The R3 is also Apple MFI certified for connecting via USB, supports three GPS systems and is also able to have firmware updates via a smartphone.
