Rangefinder Cameras
Rangefinder cameras focus by using a dual-image rangefinding device. Turn a ring, and when two superimposed images line up, the camera has found perfect focus.
Much like a disposable camera in terms of viewing, with a rangefinder camera, you never look through the lens. You focus and compose your shot through a window on the top right. Read more on how rangefinder cameras work here >

Rangefinder cameras are much lighter and compact than DSLR cameras as they do not have an internal mirror mechanism or pentaprism mirror system. Because of this, the lenses are able to be mounted closer to the focal plane and can be made lighter and compact while producing sharper images with less edge-distortion.
Add to this that they are much quieter, as they don’t have a flip-up mirror, and you have a camera that is perfect for street and travel photography.
Rangefinder cameras operate by triangulating images as you turn the focus ring, bringing the images into correlation for perfect focus. On most rangefinder cameras, the middle rectangular window collects light to make the frame lines brighter.
Leica rangefinder cameras are often considered the most premium product in this category. The Leica M range, including the Leica M11-D and Leica M10 Monochrom, are hugely popular for those looking for that classic look and feel when it comes to photography.
