The Sony FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS Lens is a large aperture telephoto lens designed for sports and wildlife photographers. Ideally balanced and weighing in at a mere 1470g,* the FE 300mm f2.8 is the smallest and lightest lens of its kind** allowing it to be used with a monopod or even hand-held for ultimate convenience.

Superb Resolution
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM is the 19th G Master lens to be released and boasts state-of-the-art optics to deliver superior sharpness, contrast and superb corner-to-corner resolution. The lens is made up of 20 elements in 16 groups and features one ED glass element and three Super ED glass elements to minimise axial chromatic aberration. You can even pair it with the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters for even greater reach while maintaining high resolution.
Bring Your Subject to the Fore
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM features an 11-blade circular aperture unit that produces beautiful bokeh so that you can bring your subject to the fore.
Bridge the Gap
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM fits perfectly between the Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM and Sony FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS lenses. It is also the perfect choice for using as a secondary lens when used in combination with the Sony FE 600mm f4 GM OSS.

The lens has been designed with the professional sports photographer in mind but also lends itself to fast-moving wildlife. This is made possible thanks to 2 XD linear motors that ensure fast, precise and accurate auto-focus that maximises the speed potential of the latest high-performance camera bodies.
Fast and Precise
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM is capable of fast and precise AF tracking all the way down to f22* and can shoot continuously. This also applies to continuous shooting while panning to follow moving subjects, or stopping down to achieve greater depth of field without having to worry about minimum aperture limitations. This high AF tracking performance is even possible when using the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters.**

Small, Lightweight and Perfectly Balanced
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM has been designed to stay as lightweight and balanced as possible to reduce inertia for easier shooting and transportation. Weighing in at only 1470g,* the FE 300mm f2.8 is the smallest and lightest lens of its kind** thanks to a reduction in the elements at the front of the lens and the internal components being made from a durable magnesium alloy.

Freedom of Movement
The lens has an aft centre of gravity for optimal balance to allow for agile lens movement and panning with a monopod or even when using hand-held. This is especially advantageous when tracking fast-moving subjects, where horizontal or vertical motion is needed.
Built-in Optical SteadyShot
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM features a built-in Optical SteadyShot to make it easier to capture sharp images when using hand-held as well as a Mode 1/2/3 Switch* so that you can quickly switch modes depending on the scenario.
- Mode 1: for normal shots (still or slow subject)
- Mode 2: for panning shots
- Mode 3: for dynamic, unpredictable sports action (framing disturbances can be minimised)
*Some camera bodies may require a camera software update to use MODE3.
Full Control at Your Fingertips
The lens features a host of mode switches and customisable buttons to allow you full control of the lens at all times.
Full-time DMF (Direct Manual Focus)
- When this switch is on, manual focus is immediately engaged by simply rotating the focus ring in any AF mode (AF-A/S/C).
Function Ring
- The default setting of the focus ring is Power Focus which initiates constant speed focussing in the specified direction. There is also an APS-C/Full Frame setting that will instantly select APS-C or full-frame format (between 300 and 450 mm) when assigned to the corresponding body menu function.
Linear Response MF LMF
- Rotation of the focus ring translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise.
Focus Range Limiter
- There are two settings provided; Full / ∞-6m

- There are four focus hold buttons that are all customisable.
Built To Endure
The Sony FE 300mm f2.8 GM lens is dust and moisture-resistant* and comes with a fluorine coating to prevent dirt and fingerprints on the glass. The internal barrels of the lens have been constructed from a durable magnesium alloy that also contributes to weight reduction.

Other Features
Other useful features of the lens include a drop-in filter holder that accepts 40.5mm filter types, a tripod mount, a new dedicated soft case to protect it against drops while travelling and a lock-button type lens hood.
