Design and Build
Weighing in at 730g, the RF 100mm F2.8L MACRO IS USM lens from Canon packs an incredible amount of technology into a portable system. 17 elements in 13 groups and a 9 blade aperture makes this lens ideal for creating beautifully soft out of focus bokeh areas.
Spherical Aberration Control Ring
Take full control of the appearance of your bokeh with the Canon RF 100mm F2.8L MACRO IS USM lens. Featuring a Spherical Aberration (SA) Control mechanism, the lens is able to specify the look of out of focus bokeh areas, whether that’s in front of your subject or behind.
A control ring on the lens allows movement of an electronic cam that independently actuates the focusing of the floating lens groups by using two Nano USMs to change the location from infinity to close-up. This process alters the spherical aberration and therefore allows you to manipulate the bokeh for your own desired effect.
Optical Hybrid Image Stabiliser
The new RF lens from Canon features an optical Hybrid Image Stabiliser that allows up to 5-stops of compensation when used with a camera without IBIS and up to 8-stops when paired with the likes of the Canon R5, which features in-body image stabilisation.
Small vibrations can be easily magnified when working in close quarters in macro photography, so Canon’s Hybrid Image Stabilisation counters this by providing up to 2-stops of IS when at 1x magnification. Couple this feature with the high-speed communication that the RF mount provides and this lens has technology that outperforms Canon’s top existing EF lenses.
Superb for Video and Stills
Thanks to two Nano USM AF motors, the lightweight optical elements are driven at speed with exceptional precision, in near silence. This makes the lens brilliant for both stills and video as the lens noise will not interfere with your scene or subject.
