The R50 is the perfect choice for beginners or those who are looking to upgrade from a smartphone or entry-level DSLRs such as the 4000D. You will be able to create content of much higher quality thanks to the 24.2mp APS-C Dual Pixel CMOS AF II sensor. This allows you to capture images at up to 12 fps (15fps for electronic shutter) or video of up to 4K/30P or Full HD 120P video. Other useful features include a Vari-Angle touchscreen, electronic viewfinder and a grip that fits naturally in your hand. There is also a Panoramic Shot Mode as well as a Vertical Shooting Function.
Vertical Shooting Function
A feature that content creators will find especially useful is the vertical shooting function. This allows the user to shoot vertical content and then share it easily on platforms such as Tik Tok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram. The camera will switch to this mode automatically when you move the camera to a vertical position.
Advanced AF
The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II allows for advanced AF functions such as recognising people, eyes, birds and animals so that you can track your subject with pin-sharp results.

The camera features a Guided User Interface to enhance your creativity and photographic skills right out of the box. When you switch modes it will explain what the mode does so that you have a greater understanding of the process. Essentially, the camera has a built-in user manual so that you can always make the right creative choices.

The R50 is the smallest and lightest camera in the EOS R range weighing in at a mere 375g. The camera features mode dials and a simple button layout for ease of use as well as a separate record button for video. There is a Multifunction shoe that allows accessories to be added without the need for cables, a 3.5 mm microphone jack for external microphones and the camera can be charged conveniently via USB.
