Zero Compromise on Resolution and Speed
The R5 allows you to capture incredibly detailed 45MP images at up to 20fps with a completely silent electronic shutter. Track your moving subject with ease thanks to a deep-learning 1053-area AF system that tracks the human eye, face and head along with animals such as dogs, cats and birds.
The R5 features the EOS ITR AF X autofocus system which has been programmed to use a deep-learning AI that was originally developed for the EOS-1D X Mark III DSLR camera. The eye and face AF is incredibly accurate and includes faces in profile when only one eye may be visible. This ensures that subjects are kept razor sharp even when moving unpredictably and when the depth of field is shallow. If your subject happens to turn away and therefore out of the eye-tracking AF, the R5 will continue to track their head so that their face is still tack-sharp when they turn back towards the camera.
Stay Steady and Sharp Even When Handheld
Capture tack-sharp photos with the World’s fastest AF speed of 0.05 sec and in light levels as low as -6EV. Handheld photography just got easier with up to 8-stops of image stabilisation. The EOS R5 features a 5-axis in-body image stabilisation which alone provides up to 5-stops of protection when using the camera handheld.
Pair the R5 with a compatible IS-equipped lens and the two systems work hand in hand to create a groundbreaking intelligent image stabilisation system that boosts you to a jaw-dropping 8-stop advantage.
Ultra-high-speed Electronic Viewfinder
The R5’s EVF refreshes at a rate of 120 frames per second and features a colour-rich 5.75millions dots. This provides an unbelievable realistic view of your subject or scene, leaving you totally immersed in your photographic world.
If that’s not enough for you then, of course, the EVF will provide you with previews of white balance, depth of field and Picture Style, so you’ll always have a realistic and up-to-date view of what you’re shooting.
Video Capabilities
This is where the R5 breaks down boundaries for filmmakers. Capture superb 8K 12-bit RAW video using the full width of the Canon camera's full-frame sensor for an outstanding cinematic result. Thanks to the camera’s CFexpress card capabilities, 8K filming is possible to be captured internally with ZERO crop. Continuous AF with eye and face tracking aides the run-and-gun style filmmaker.
If you need to speed up your post-shooting workflow then the R5 will also allow you to shoot in other ways. Choose between 10-bit 4:2:2 MP4/H.265 or 8-bit 4:2:0 MP4/H.265 codecs.
It doesn’t have to be all about the 8K video. The EOS R5 sets new standards for those wanting to shoot in 4K. Capture 4K at frame rates up to 120p (119.88fps) with 4:2:2/10-bit quality, which provides you with buttery smooth slow-motion in a superbly stunning high-resolution.
For those that need something extra from their 4K footage then the EOS R5’s 4K HQ mode reproduces stunning video by oversampling from 8K footage at frame rates up to 30p. Perfect for those high-quality and cinematic YouTube creations.
Power for Professionals
Allow us to introduce you to a new powerful battery from Canon. The new LP-E6NH battery adds 20% more capacity than its older sibling, the LP-E6N, allowing you to capture (on average) 490 shots on a single charge.
The new LP-E6NH batteries can be charged using the supplied battery charger or in-camera via a USB-C 3.1, with 5V/1.5A power delivery (PD) capabilities. Extend your shoot time even further with the BG-R10 battery grip, which can accommodate two batteries at once.
To help keep those potentially transitioning from the Canon DSLR range, the older LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries are compatible with the R5, however, the very fastest shooting rates and in-camera charging are not available with the LP-E6.
Connected Workflow
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth let you transfer images to your mobile device seamlessly and also supports upload to cloud accounts using image.canon. Send quickly and easily to clients using the R5’s FTP/FTPS services.
