Leaps in Alpha Image Quality
With a new, advanced image sensor design, the α7R IV A has taken leaps and bounds in high-quality imaging from the Sony A7R III. A 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor will give a huge resolution of 61 Megapixels. When combining the sensor with BIONZ X imaging engine, the results are staggering.
The back-illuminated design is combined with clever noise reduction tech. This allows the camera to deliver sensitive and low noise performance.
15-stops of dynamic range at low sensitivity gives the A7R 4 A smooth gradations. From dark shadows to bright highlights. It uses algorithms from the Alpha range to reproduce beautiful colour.
-
Exmor R CMOS Sensor
The new image sensor gives high resolution without compare. A back-illuminated design produces high sensitivity, low noise images. -
Advanced image processing engine
The camera features the most up to date BIONZ X image processing engine. This works harmoniously with front-end LSI. It will also achieve up to 15-stop dynamic range at a low ISO. -
Broad standard ISO 100-32000 range
The α7R IV A offers the highest standard ISO 32000. This is despite the high pixel count. It will reduce any noise in the low to the mid-sensitivity range.
Sharp 26.2MP imaging from APS-C cropping
The high image resolution allows you to still produce high res images after cropping. You can crop your full-frame images down to an APS-C scale at an impressive 26.2 megapixels. This is perfect for any bird and wildlife photography which normally requires high magnified cropping.
Rapid shooting and focusing experience
The Alpha 7R IV A will shoot full-res images at 10 frames per second. Not only that, but it’ll do it with continuous accurate AF AE tracking for up to 7 seconds.
The camera features 567 focal-plane phase-detection AF points. They cover approx 74% of the image area. 425 contrast AF points give precision in poor lighting.
A high AF sensor density is met with a redefined tracking algorithm to give a heightened performance from the Alpha series. This means that any challenging, moving subject is captured better than ever before!
-
Wide Autofocus cover
The advanced image sensor will give wide, high-density AF coverage. It has 567 phase-detection AF points at approx. 99.7% high - 74% wide. 425-point contrast-detection Autofocus will support precise focus points.
-
Fast AF despite a higher resolution
Thanks to responsive enhanced Fast Hybrid AF, despite its large data handling, the α7R IV A delivers swift AF even under dim lighting conditions, with remarkable ability to capture an aimed subject.
-
Developments in Steadfast Autofocus tracking
Wider AF coverage, an increase in AF points and an advanced algorithm all contribute to excellent tracking. This allows constant shooting even when faced with a challenging subject.
-
5-axis In-body image stabilisation
The in-body 5-axis stabilisation algorithm has been fine-tuned to get the best out of the high pixel count The camera will support you when shooting by hand. This allows for more impromptu photography and less need for a tripod!
-
Structural blur reduction
The camera has been developed throughout to reduce image blur. The new mechanism affixes the shutter unit and suppresses any minute camera shake. Combined with the stabilisation, this maintains the high 61mp image quality.
-
Silent shooting
Whether you’re a wildlife photographer or you shoot weddings, the silent shooting feature is for you! The silent shutter mode allows you to work unnoticeably. The silent, vibration-free shutter also works great for sharpening your resolution event further.
-
Superbly accurate AF in low lighting
Using some of the best in class Autofocus Algorithms, the camera will perform well in low light. The AF will remain precise down to EV-3. A Focus Priority in Aperture Drive mode is perfect for accurate AF when the aperture is stopped down. -
Continuous shooting up to 68 images
The A7R IV A has a buffer memory size that is 1.5x greater than the A7R III. This makes for some excellent standards in burst shooting reaching up to 68 images. In the APS-C shooting mode, you'll reach approx 3x more images than with the full-frame shooting mode.
-
Smart AI Tracking
AI-based Real-time Tracking is a new feature. It will make challenging subjects, almost effortless to capture. Just pick your subject and press the shutter release halfway. The AI will do the rest. A face and eye priority setting will smoothly and automatically change the target between eye and face on humans.
-
Real-time Eye AF with animal eye tracking for more success
The improved algorithms also give support for animal eye tracking. This gives a rapid and accurate auto-detection and tracking of an animal subject.
-
Shoot for hours with up to 3 batteries
The camera takes a high capacity 2280mAh NP-FZ100 battery. With an optional battery grip (sold separately here - or see the custom bundles above) you can add an extra 2 batteries giving you hours and hours of life.
-
Dual UHS-II Slots
Both media slots will support UHS-I and UHS-II. This allows for extremely fast mass volume data writing. It will simultaneously and relay record. As well as separating RAW & JPEG stills and movies. It will also smoothly copy data between cards.
Is the A7R IV A a good camera for shooting video?
Yes. The A7R IV A boasts many superb features as well as excellent 4K and 6K Oversampled image quality.
High-res 4K video
The A7R 4 A has Full Frame and Super 35 video formats, both working in 4K. You can condense roughly 2.4x the data that is required for 4K video when shooting in the Super 35mm option. This gives stunning 4K quality but with minor levels of moire and jaggles. Both modes give detailed skin tone and smooth highlight gradation.
A broad dynamic range from HLG and S-Log3
S-Log3 will give excellent gradation between shadows and mid-tones. It has a wide 14stop dynamic range and supports S-Gamut3. Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG for short) picture profiling will immediately deliver HDR workflow.
-
Real-Time Movie AF now available
The camera's AF will detect your subject's eyes. This allows you to concentrate on composition while producing high quality, in focus video.
-
Touch screen tracking
Simply press your subject on the screen and let the auto-tracking do the rest.
-
Clear audio from a digital interface
A Digital Audio Interface will give enhanced Multi Interface Shoe. When using the ECM-B1M Shotgun Mic (sold separately in the bundles above) or an XLR adaptor kit you can capture crisp, clear audio for your movies.
Next Level 5.76 million dot Viewfinder
The α7R IV A has a 5.76-million-dot UXGA OLED Tru-Finder. It will offer up the finest detail with 1.6x greater viewing than that of the α7R III. An optional ‘high quality’ setting will give precise and natural fidelity. This also suppresses moiré and jaggies to allow you to concentrate on composition.
The EVF has a framerate of 120/100fps this is perfect for subject tracking with ease.
Superb construction and sealing
Durable Alpha design with dust and moisture resistance has been further improved on. It has more sealing across all the important slots and buttons than ever before.
A lightweight magnesium alloy body is highly durable. It also features a new 6 screw mount for extra resistance.
