Class-leading optical performance
The Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN I Art Lens has a focal length that is perfect for portraiture with a bright, f1.4 aperture making this lens a must-have addition to any photographer's kit bag. The f1.4 aperture allows for greater results in low light situations as well as delivering outstanding bokeh and depth-of-field shots.
The lens boasts five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and one aspherical element to help to control optical aberrations including chromatic aberration, flare and ghosting.
In addition to five SLD elements and one aspherical element, the lens has incorporated the latest high-refractive-index glass, which works to correct aberrations that cannot be effectively handled by in-camera correction. With a particular emphasis given to the elimination of axial chromatic aberration, users will enjoy sharp images with no colour bleeding all the way up to the maximum aperture of F1.4.
Compact and lightweight
The lens is extremely compact and lightweight weighing in at only 630g with a body length of 94.1mm and a 77mm filter size. This makes it far smaller and lighter than the original Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art lens.
The lens has been designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras and combines a very large lens diameter, superb optical performance and a lightweight and compact body when compared with other 85mm f1.4 lenses.
Impressive feature set
Introduced on this lens is a new iris ring lock switch, which allows users to lock the iris ring either at auto or between apertures F1.4-F16. This ensures that unintended movement of the ring from auto to manual, or vice versa, during shooting so users can focus on creating their shot.
There is a Focus Mode Switch on the lens barrel and an AFL button that allows various functions to be assigned from the camera body according to user preference.
The AF system employs a stepping motor that is optimised for both phase-detect and contrast AF. Not only does this provide a smooth shooting experience only possible on a mirrorless camera (such as face/eye AF), but it has reduced the size of the lens body thanks to a much smaller focus element.
AFL button
The lens has an AFL button that can have various functions be assigned from a camera body, while a stepping motor allows a good balance between acceleration and quietness of the AF drive for stress-free focusing. The lens is also compatible with the Eye-Detection AF used more frequently in mirrorless cameras, which is capable of high-precision focusing at the time of portrait photography.
Dust and splash-proof structure
In addition to the dust- and splash-proof structure, the 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art uses materials such as aluminium and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) to achieve superb Art-line build quality, but with weight kept to a minimum.
