High-Speed Sports Photography
Made for fast-paced environments like sports, action and wildlife, this is a pro lens for pro photographers. The High Response Linear Actuator (HLA) powers the high-thrust motor for speedy and accurate autofocus. Optimised for optical power the focus lens group is lightweight ensuring high-speed autofocus with outstanding accuracy.
F4 Aperture throughout Ultra Telephoto Zoom
Constructed from 28 elements in 21 groups the 300-600mm f4 Sports lens offers unmatched image quality. 6 FLD and 1 SLD glass element, anomalous dispersion glass and a high refractive index glass all work to produce exceedingly high image resolution with minimal optical aberrations. The bright f4 aperture is wide for fast response and excellent light intake even in dimly lit scenarios.
5.5 Stops Optical Image Stabilisation
The 5.5 stops of optical image stabilisation are powered by Sigma’s OS2 algorithm. This drive unit is specially designed with a high-precision sensor and actuator that ensure ultimate mobility free from camera shake. Choose between 2 OS modes:
Mode 1 – For most still photography and video.
Mode 2 – Specially designed for panning shots, this mode stabilised the image during horizontal, vertical and diagonal movements.
New Function Ring
A newly added function ring can be set to Focus Preset Mode or Power Focus Mode:
Focus Preset Mode – By turning the function ring to the left or right, the focus can be instantly shifted to a pre-registered focus position. This is useful when frequently shooting at a fixed focus position.
Power Focus Mode – Focusing at a constant speed is possible by operating the function ring. This allows for smooth focus shifts during movie shooting as well as for focusing with minimal movement when shooting hand-held. The focusing speed can be changed in two steps depending on the angle at which the function ring is operated.
Built for all Environments
To photograph the action you have to be in it which is why the Sigma 300-600 Sports Lens is weather-sealed* in at least 5 places; the mount joints, manual focus ring, zoom ring, custom switches and other control switches. In addition to this, the lens is also coated with thermal insulation paint to absorb excess heat from sunlight and prevent the lens from overheating in long outdoor shoots, and the front lens element is also water and oil-resistant.
*The lens is designed to be dust- and splash-resistant, but not waterproof.
Professional Features
Sigma has dedicated this lens to professionals, understanding their need for ultimate control and therefore adding multiple custom switches and controls including; AFL buttons in four locations, a focus mode switch, a focus limiter switch, an OS mode switch and a custom mode switch.
The lens barrel is built from magnesium alloy and the hood is carbon, making the lens both robust and manoeuvrable. The lens’ internal zoom mechanism centres the gravity and the optical design prevents the lens from being front-heavy so that it is suitable for use with tripods.
Durable Tripod Socket
The tripod socket’s rotating mechanism uses bearings for both high durability and smooth rotation. An optional click/declick mechanism rotates each 90º angle for quick and seamless adjustments. The tripod socket foot is also compatible with Acra-Swiss clamps and can be easily removed and replaced with different interchangeable tripod sockets (available separately) to suit a variety of situations and preferences.
Drop in Filter Holder
The included drop-in filter holder can take standard 40.5mm filters as well as Sigma’s newly developed circular polarizing filter and variable ND filter (available separately) that can be adjusted by approximately 7-stops while dropped into the lens.
