Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 II Sony FE Lens
The Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 FE II is a full frame prime lens for Sony mirrorless cameras and the second generation of the original Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 FE. The lens is perfect for portraits and its fast f1.4 aperture lends itself to low-light conditions as well as producing soft bokeh with out-of-focus backgrounds. It is also suited to close-up portraiture thanks to a minimum focusing distance of 0.85m (2.79ft) and is a great choice for videography due to its fast and quiet auto-focussing system.
Design and Build
The Samyang AF 85mm II lens weighs a mere 509g and measures just 99.5mm in length making it compact and lightweight enough to take with you anywhere. The lens is constructed from 11 elements in 8 groups and delivers incredible contrast and an outstanding resolution across the entire image thanks to 4 HR (High Refractive) and 1 ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass element. Its centre resolution is superior to other telephoto lenses. This corner-to-corner sharpness produces stunning image clarity even in low-light conditions, with help from Samyang’s advanced coating technology.
Fast, Precise and Quiet AF
The AF 85mm f1.4 features a linear stepping motor (STM) for quiet, super-fast and precise autofocus and tracking. This new version of the lens has been optimised to minimise vibration and noise making it perfect for videographers as well as photographers.
Beautiful Bokeh
The lens is able to capture images with beautifully smooth and rounded bokeh thanks to its 9-blade circular aperture design while the maximum aperture of F1.4 allows you to work in very low light situations, whilst still being able to capture super-sharp and clear images.
The lens is the only FE mount lens that does not feature any aspherical glass which can cause an onion ring effect in the bokeh. With no aspherical element included, the lens produces clear and beautiful bokeh.
Enhanced operability
The Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 II features a customisable focus hold button and a custom switch. This makes the lens very versatile and able to be personalised to suit the shooter's needs and the needs of the scene.
Focus Hold Button - Keeps the lens locked to that focusing distance. You can assign functions such as Eye AF in settings on the camera body.
Custom Switch - Allows adjustment of the aperture silently, by rotating the focus ring. Using the optional Lens Station, you can set up this mode to suit your own preference*.
*More functions will be added through firmware updates in the future.
Great for Close-up
The lens offers a minimum focus distance of just 85cm, allowing you to get closer to your subjects and capture them with exaggerated features. This is perfect for close-up headshots as well as full body images while isolating the subject from the background with the wide F1.4 aperture.
Weather-sealed design
The AF 85mm II F1.4 FE has been designed to perform even in light rain, snow and dust thanks to the weather sealing in 7 areas. The ergonomic design of the lens feels fantastic in the hand, making it easy to operate without taking your eye away from the camera and your subject.
