The Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f1.8 is a compact prime lens produced for the Lumix S-series of full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens boasts a wide f1.8 aperture that produces beautiful bokeh making it perfect for portraits and landscapes. It is also fantastic as a video lens, features a compact design and is dust/splash and freeze proof.
This is the latest in a series of four large-aperture lenses for the Lumix S-series that includes the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f1.8 lens.
Lens Construction
The Lumix S 50mm f1.8 has been designed to be compact and lightweight, weighing in at just 300g and measuring only 82mm in length, making this a lens that can be taken anywhere and serves a multitude of uses thanks to it’s versatile focal length.
The lens comprises nine lens elements in eight groups which includes three aspherical lenses, one ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and one UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Lens to deliver high descriptive performance, gorgeous bokeh and helps to suppress chromatic aberration.
The lens also features a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm that produces round shapes in blurred background areas of open aperture capture.
Perfect for video
This lens is perfect for portraits and landscape photography but is also a fantastic lens to use for videography due to a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing.
The high-speed AF system and silent operation allows you to film in environments that require discretion, such as weddings, sporting events and presentations.
Combine this with a micro-step aperture control, that helps to ensure smooth exposure change and you have a lens that is capable of delivering professional quality video capture.
Dust, Splash and Freeze Proof
As well as being compact and lightweight, the lens has been designed to be durable enough for use in all conditions thanks to its dust and splash proof weather sealing. On top of this, it is freeze proof and can be used in temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celcius.
