7.5 stop, 5-axis, dual I.S. 2
The GH5 was renowned for its outstanding body image stabilization, allowing videographers to capture smooth, shake-free footage with ease. The GH6 takes things even further with an all-new Ultra-high-precision Gyro-sensor that delivers 7.5 stops of image stabilisation. Powerful Body I.S corrects hand-shake, making it possible to use a 7.5-stop slower shutter speed, even with lenses that are not equipped with O.I.S. Additionally, Dual I.S 2 provides powerful compensation even in the telephoto range where Body I.S may drop.
100MP High Resolution mode
The GH6 features a 100MP high-resolution mode. When using this mode, 8 consecutive images are produced while shifting the sensor and then combined into a 100MP image in both RAW and JPEG formats. It is also possible to take these high-res images without a tripod thanks to the camera’s powerful 7.5 stops of image stabilisation.
Dynamic Range Boost Mode
The GH6 can produce 12+ stops of wide-dynamic-range for pre-installed V-Log recording but this can be expanded to 13+ stops when selecting the Dynamic Range Boost Mode.* When using this mode the camera produces a highly saturated image from the low ISO circuit and a low noise image from the high ISO circuit. The two are then composited to produce a single image that results in clear and smooth HDR video with rich gradation
* Available in Creative Video mode only, Minimum ISO 800 in standard mode/ISO2000 in V-Log/HLG.
V-Log/V-Gamut
Another first for the GH6 is the inclusion of V-Log/V-Gamut. When using V-Log the camera renders a flat image but maintains all of the colour information to give you more options when editing the footage in post-production. The Live MOS sensor of the GH6 achieves a wide colour gamut known as V-Gamut which is wider than BT.2020.
The LUMIX GH6 imports the renowned colourimetry of the Panasonic VariCam line-up of cinema cameras. V709 LUT (Look Up Table) with Rec.709 standard is available in the camera by default. As a further convenience, for the first time, V-Log View Assist (which can apply LUTs in real-time) supports the import of .CUBE as well as .VLT file formats.
Great video is nothing without great audio
Smooth, pristine video capture is a must but it is nothing if you don’t have crisp and clear audio to go along with it and the GH6 boasts a range of audio improvements to meet this demand. The camera is capable of 48kHz 24-bit when using the built-in microphone or external mic via the 3.5mm jack as well as 48kHz/96kHz 24-bit when used with the Panasonic DMW-XLR1.*
You can also use 4ch Audio with the DMW-XLR1* (MOV and Apple ProRes only) to give you a wide range of audio capture options whether you be shooting a single person talking to the camera, multiple subjects for interview situations as well as backup and/or ambient recording.
Other audio features include a 3.5mm headphone jack that works with a sound monitoring channel setting, an audio information button on the top of the camera and 4ch audio data output when using HDMI.

NEW Venus Engine
The GH6 features a new Venus Engine that delivers approximately twice the processing power that enables even faster processing speeds along with higher-resolution and higher-bit-rate video. There are three key technologies that contribute toward this.
New Intelligent Detail Processing
This process detects all of the flat, detailed and edged elements in a frame with more accuracy to then produce a highly realistic image.
New 2D Noise Reduction
This ensures that chromatic noise is kept to a minimum and improves the texture of luminance noise. This produces a more clear and natural looking image even when shooting at high sensitivity.
High Precision 3D Noise Reduction for video
The detection capability of still and moving parts has been advanced, making it possible to optimise noise reduction while minimising afterimages. As a result, the image quality of video with dynamic motion is enhanced.
In addition, high-precision Dual 3D Colour Control enhances colour reproduction by brightness level, saturation level and hue level for rich, faithful colour expression.
The combination of the new advanced sensor with enhanced saturation performance and the new engine makes it possible to render a clearer image even in 25.2-megapixel high resolution and lower minimum ISO sensitivity at ISO 100 [Photo: ISO 50(Extended) - 25600 / Video: ISO 50(Extended) -12800].
Unlimited Recording Time
Much like it’s predecessor’s the GH5 and GH5 II, the GH6 has unlimited recording time even when shooting 5.7K 60p/50p 10-bit, allowing you to shoot video beyond the 29:59 limit of most other cameras. You can also power the camera via the USB 3.2 port, to eliminate battery changes and record directly to a field monitor, like the Atomos Ninja Ultra so that you can record to memory drives with even greater capacity.
Heat management
To further aid the camera’s unlimited recording time the GH6 has been equipped with a forced cooling mechanism to enhance the heat dissipation path. The new Thermal Management Mode ensures that a cooling fan starts up to allow you to record even when the temperature rises. This is achieved by using high thermal conductivity TIM and graphite to ensure that the heat from the board is consolidated into the heat dissipation fins and exhausts with a fan. This has resulted in unlimited recording time at up to 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p simultaneous internal/external recording.
Weatherproof Design
To be tough enough to withstand heavy use in any scenario, the GH6 is fully weatherproofed. Secure construction and sealing on every joint, button, and dial makes this splash and dustproof.* The camera body is even freeze-proof down to -10 degrees meaning this camera can go wherever you can. The shutter unit is also durable for approximately 200,000 cycles.**
*Dust and splash proof resistant does not guarantee that damage will not occur if this camera is subjected to direct contact with dust and water.
**Panasonic LUMIX in-house examination.
Design & Build
The LUMIX GH6 has been constructed from a magnesium alloy to ensure that the body is as lightweight as possible while remaining durable.
The camera is equipped with 2 card slots. Slot 1 is for CFexpress Ver2.0 Type B cards that allow high-speed and large-capacity data transfer while slot 2 is for SD UHS-II UHS3 V90 memory cards.
The camera features a Tilt & free-angle, 3.0” 1840k Dot touchscreen monitor, that can be positioned easily even when you have the HDMI and USB cables attached, as well as a 3,680k-dot 0.76x live viewfinder with easy-to-see OLED display.
The HDMI Type A connection supports 4K 120p via HDMI 2.1 while the USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C connection gives you the ability to supply power to the camera while filming. You can even charge the battery at the same time but this will require the DMW-BTC15 charger which is sold separately.
Other useful features
Other useful features of the LUMIX GH6 include Cinelike gamma presets such as ‘Cinelike D2’ and ‘Cinelike V2’ both of which have similar gamma setting characteristics for film production.
Video assists functions have also been added including Waveform Monitor, Zebra Pattern, Luminance Spot Metre, Frame Marker, Anamorphic Desqueeze Display, Red REC Frame Indicator and Tally lamps.
Another new feature is the Safety Zone Marker. This gives the user a guide recording area of 95%, 90% or 80% with the Centre Marker allowing you to choose the type of the marker and Kelvin values can be displayed on the recording screen.
The Exposure Levelling function allows you to take amazing 4K 60p timelapse videos inside the camera as the exposure will be automatically adjusted to prevent large changes in brightness.
You can also use the new MF assist function during video recording* to enlarge the screen up to 6x to check the focus.
*Up to 60p. Does not work in Variable Frame Rate mode.
