OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO Lens
The OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO Lens is a wide-angle, high-performing lens that sets you up ready for a wide variety of photographic scenarios. Acting as a 16-50mm f4 (35mm equivalent) this is the perfect choice for landscapes, architecture, and portraiture. And the 0.42x magnification makes it a great lens for macro photography too.
Compact, lightweight & high magnification
A truly versatile lens, it can shoot everything from landscapes to snapshots. The lightweight and compact build, just 88.5mm in length and 411g in weight allow the user to reach remote areas with zero hassle. In order for the shape to be as compact as possible, the 8-25mm PRO is the first M.Zuiko PRO lens to feature a retracting zoom mechanism to preserve space whilst on the go. This mechanism has the additional advantage of a reduced number of buttons to prevent dust or water penetration. It is the ideal lens for those who like to travel with as little luggage as possible without sacrificing professional quality.
Superb optical performance
The ED 8-25mm f4.0 PRO Lens is constructed out of 16 elements in 10 groups including 1 DSA, 2 Aspherical ED, 1 Super ED, 1 ED, 1 Super HR, 1 HR, and 1 HD. These elements combine to create optics of superior image quality and due to the fixed aperture value, exposure control is easy while shooting with variable zoom settings in any lighting situation.
A high number of aberrations including chromatic and sagittal comatic aberrations are thoroughly suppressed, producing high-resolution, sharp images unique to the M.Zuiko PRO range. Furthermore, the optimised ZERO Coating and lens shape thoroughly suppress ghosting and flare even in backlit lighting.
Consisting of a minimum and maximum aperture range of f4.0–f22 with 7 rounded aperture blades, a smooth bokeh can be created, ideal for landscapes and portraiture. A high-speed imager AF (MSC) linear motor drive system powers the autofocus mechanism. Additionally, the Manual Focus Clutch provides instant switching between auto and manual focusing and an L-Fn (lens function) button allows users to change settings with a single operation using their thumb while holding the camera.
Maximum magnification of 0.42x
Not restricted to landscapes this compact lens is also capable of intense macro photography, with a maximum shooting magnification of 0.42x (35mm equivalent). High-magnification opens up the potential for impressive macro photography, particularly when used on an equivalent 35mm sensor that renders the magnification 0.14x wide and 0.42x telephoto. Coupled with the 0.23m minimum focusing distance across the entire zoom range and supported Focus Stacking, the potential for crystal clear macro images that are sharp front to back is stunning.
Expression at your fingertips
OM System has designed this wide-angle zoom lens with photographic expression in mind. Despite featuring an ultra-wide-angle 16mm equivalent performance, a 72mm thread on the front of the lens opens up Polarizing and Natural Density filter options which are especially advantageous in landscape photography. The standard 72mm thread can be found on a number of OM System lenses such as the 100-400mm F5-6.3 ED IS M.Zuiko, which is particularly useful for those expanding their lens collection.
Reliable weather-resistant performance
Shoot anywhere, anytime thanks to the dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof (down to -10℃) construction. The lens features the highly reliable IPX1 equivalent weatherproofing performance for assured reliability. The lens is also easy to clean and comes complete with a wrapping cloth for cleaning on the go and before photoshoots. Pair with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 or OM-D E-M5 series for ultimate peace of mind when photographing in demanding environments such as rain and snow, the two components lock together fully sealed for complete protection.

FAQs
What is this lens best suited for?
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO Lens is highly versatile. The wide angle coupled with the high quantity of special lens elements lends itself to sweeping landscapes of excellent image quality. Additionally, the powerful high magnification of 0.42x along with the minimum focusing distance of 23cm makes this a great lens for macro photography too.
The lens elements explained
The M.Zuiko ED 8-25mm f4.0 PRO Lens is constructed of 16 elements in 10 groups including 1 DSA lens, 2 Aspherical ED lenses, 1 Super ED lens, 1 ED lens, 1 Super HR lens, 1 HR lens, and 1 HD lens. Whilst these letters may seem confusing, once broken down you can truly understand what Olympus has put into this lens to make it so special:
DSA Lens – Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) lenses are highly advanced, consisting of two independent aspherical surfaces that provide edge-to-edge sharpness.
Aspherical, Super, and straight-up ED Lenses – Extra-low Dispersion (ED) minimises colour fringing to prevent chromatic aberrations.
Super and ordinary HR lenses – High-Refractive (HR) lenses can bend light to reduce aberration and make lenses lighter and shorten the barrel length. This is why the 8-25mm lens can be so lightweight and compact.
HD lenses – Just as with televisions, HD stands for High-Definition, the addition of this element increases the image quality and sharpness.
