Powerful, high-quality imaging
The Z 50 comes with a 20.9MP DX-format sensor at its core and the latest EXPEED 6 processor to run the fast, wide Hybrid-AF system and deal with images taken at 11fps.
The Hybrid AutoFocus system has 209 on-sensor AF points that cover approximately 90% of the frame. It will also operate fully with the cameras 11 frames per second continuous shooting feature. This means you will get fast, accurate and sharp autofocus with every shot.
Capture stunning 4K 30p Movies
On the video front, the Z 50 can shoot 4K movies at 30p and slow-motion in Full HD with no crop-factor limitations. You can also create 4K time-lapse sequences in-camera.
User friendly
For those who like to shoot with the camera to your eye, the Z 50 features a sharp electronic viewfinder with a 2360k-dot resolution offering DSLR like performance.
To help you shoot images or footage in any conditions the Z 50 has a large, high-resolution LCD that can be tilted up or down. It also has smartphone-style touch controls to make operation simple and smooth when reviewing images and navigating the menu.
The Menu has been kept similar to the DSLRs, making it instantly familiar for current Nikon users and very friendly for someone coming from a different system. A highlight of the menu options a ‘?’ feature which works like a mini-manual. It is available on a lot of the settings and photo features to help a new user work out what to set.
The comfort of the Z6 and Z7 has always been noted as a big positive for users and the Z 50 doesn’t disappoint on that front. It has a deep grip, thoughtfully placed buttons and dial plus the touchscreen feature mentioned earlier.
When you are out and about, you can connect the Z 50 to your mobile devices with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth along with the Nikon SnapBridge app to make it easier to send photos and movies to your devices or storage.
When it comes to accessories, you can use remote controls, speedlights, microphones and more from the DSLR system.
Our thoughts on the Z 50
In our opinion, the release of the Z 50 shows Nikon commitment to the mirrorless camera market and giving people the chance to move away from large DSLR system at a fantastic price point is a very strong move. The camera is very comfortable to handle and not too small for most. Having the features of the Hybrid-AF with Intelligent Eye-Detection, 11 fps, and an amazing ISO range of 100-51200 makes this camera extremely versatile.
