Instant Cinematic Atmosphere
The soft filter type adds a cinematic effect by diffusing both natural and artificial light sources as well as slightly suppressing contrasts in the shadows. The overall effect is dramatic and reminiscent of a movie scene. It eliminates the need for post-production, instead giving both camera operators and directors instant feedback on the look of the shot.
Portraiture & Landscapes
As well as cinematography, the Hoya Mist Diffuser is also great for portraiture. It smooths skin texture and reduces the overall contrast to a much more flattering and stylish look on the model. It also lends itself well to landscape photography as the filter blurs the light through the trees which can be enhanced further by setting the exposure compensation to a brighter setting.
How Does It Work?
The Black Mist Diffuser works by equally distributing a fine black nanopowder between two layers of non-coated optical glass. Unlike other mist filters, the black powder is specifically used because it does not lighten the image.

The filter is made of a lightweight aluminium frame that is very durable. Its low-profile design frame is made to avoid the risk of vignetting.

Should I choose the No0.5 or No1?
The No0.5 offers a mild softening effect while the No1 is comparably stronger. The No1 is particularly well-suited to night scenes or scenes with strong backlighting while the No0.05 keeps a more subtle effect for dusk shoots.
