Two Cameras on one drone!
Hasselblad L2D-20c Camera
At the heart of the DJI Mavic 3 is the Hasselblad L2D-20c camera. This is a 4/3 CMOS sensor camera that is capable of high-resolution 20MP photos and produces 12.8 stops of Dynamic Range so that you have more information to work with in post-production.
The larger sensor helps to suppress noise in low-light conditions and the variable aperture range, of f2.8-f11, gives you more control in a multitude of lighting situations.
The lens offers a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and has an 84° field-of-view for capturing more details with sharp clarity. The lens only weighs 12.5g and is also equipped with Vision Detection Auto Focus (VDAF) that works with multiple vision sensors so as to utilize distance data and to optimise focusing speeds.
Key Features
- 20MP Photos
- 12.8 Stops of Dynamic Range
- f/2.8-f/11 Adjustable Aperture
- 24mm Equivalent Focal Length
- Vision Detection Auto Focus (VDAF)
Tele-camera
Also equipped on the Mavic 3 is a 1/2” CMOS sensor, tele-camera that offers a focal length of 162mm, an f4.4 aperture and a 28x hybrid zoom. This allows you to film even when subjects are far away. When using this with explore mode, you can scout out your surrounding area and plan out your shots.
Key Features
- 1/2” CMOS Sensor
- 12MP Camera
- f/4.4 aperture
- 28x Hybrid Zoom
- 162mm focal length
- 15° field-of-view
Outstanding video quality
The Mavic 3 offers some exceptional video capabilities. It is possible to capture 5.1K 50P and DCI 4K video at up to 120fps. The camera can capture up to 1 billion colours due to its 10-bit D-Log colour profile which is fantastic for colour grading in post-production.
Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution
Another benefit of the Hasselblad camera is their Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS). This ensures natural and highly accurate colours are captured, no matter where you’re shooting.
Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing
The drone comes equipped with Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing. This allows for a safer flying experience allowing you to concentrate on capturing the most cinematic footage possible. This is achieved by multiple wide-angle vision sensors working with a high-performance vision computing engine so that it can sense obstacles in all directions.
Advanced RTH
The drone also features an advanced RTH (Return To Home) mode. This allows the drone to determine the safest route back to its home point on its own, giving you that extra peace of mind.
46 Minute Flight Time
The Mavic 3 has been designed in such a way that its wind resistance is 50% stronger than its predecessor. Combine this with a more efficient propulsion system and a high-capacity battery and you get an extended flight time of 46 minutes. This gives you ample time to get all the footage you need in a single flight.
12km Transmission Range/FHD High-Frame-Rate
The drone has a 12km transmission range with higher stability and less video lag so that you can fly farther than ever before. It is also the first drone capable of 1080p/60fps live feed so that you can view the footage being captured closer to what the camera is actually recording.
High-Precision-Positioning
You can rest assured that your footage will be as clear as possible thanks to the drone's High-Precision-Positioning system. This allows the drone to remain incredibly stable while hovering so that you can produce outstanding photos, video, timelapse and hyperlapse videos.
Other features of the drone include*
Waypoints 3.0, Active Track 5.0, MasterShots, Wi-Fi 6 Quick Transfer, 100MP Panorama, Trimmed Download.
*These will be made available in a firmware update in January 2022

Do I need to register my drone?
Yes. Any drone exceeding 250g will need to be registered. If you require more information for this then please visit the CAA’s DMARES website. If you have already registered and have an Operator ID, ensure this is attached to your drone.
Where can I fly in the UK?
If you have not taken a drone training course you will have to adhere to the rules of the Open Category’s A3 subcategory (fly far from people).
- No uninvolved people present within the area of flight;
- No flight within 150m horizontally of residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational areas.
If you would like more freedom with your flying it is best to take a drone training course.
Training options
- A2 CofC
- An A2 CofC allows operations in the A2 subcategory (fly near to people) of the Open Category. This permits flights up to 50m horizontally from uninvolved people. This is allowed during the Transitional Period, which runs in the UK until December 31, 2022.
- GVC
- For operations that pose a greater risk than the Open Category or fall outside the Open Category perimeters, a GVC is required to apply for an Operational Authorisation to fly in the Specific Category.
Can I use this drone commercially?
Yes. Having an A2 CofC allows you to operate commercially. But the A2 CofC is not specifically a commercial permission; it is a competency that permits flights in the A2 subcategory, regardless of recreational or commercial flying.
You can fly commercially in the Open Category without an A2 CofC, but your operations will be restricted to the conditions of the A3 subcategory.
The GVC allows you to apply for an Operational Authorisation, which has replaced the Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO), to fly in the Specific Category - geared towards enterprise drone pilots and for operations outside the remit of the Open Category.
