Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ Newtonian Reflector Telescope
Celestron has reinvented star gazing with the Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ. Say goodbye to star charts, pre-mapping out stars or studying the properties of each planet. The manual telescope can do all of this for you. The StarSense Explorer comes with its own dedicated, patent-pending app with star location technology. Quick and easy to set up, in just minutes the StarSense app will be guiding you to stars, planets and the wonders of our Solar System.
Dock and Explore
Leave the star charts at home thanks to Celestron’s manual telescope with StarSense Explorer. Each purchase comes with unique access to their patent-pending StarSense Explorer app which lets you navigate the sky in minutes. Easy to set up, unleash the power of your telescope by mounting your smartphone and following the instructions to align your telescope with the stars. StarSense then generates a list of celestial objects currently visible and arrows will guide you to objects in the sky above you. For each object, there is a panel of information for you to learn more about the galaxy and the objects that you are currently looking at. The StarSense smartphone dock is compatible with the majority of modern smartphones, simply dock, launch and explore.
Unique Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense’s sky recognition technology is designed to let you get the most out of your telescope with very limited experience required. Using Celestron’s Lost In Space Algorithm (LISA), similar to that used by satellites, the app is able to correctly orient itself and take you on a tour of the night. Highly intelligent, the app knows which objects are bright enough to see in light-polluted areas and which require darker skies. However, as the app does not need any phone signal, it will still work even in the most remote dark sky locations.
Altazimuth Mount
The StarSense Explorer LT comes with a manual Alt-Azimuth mount that is simple to operate to find your target. The mount is anchored by an adjustable, full-height tripod with an accessory tray included.
High-Quality Optics
Complete with two high-quality Kellner eyepieces, a 90° diagonal and a 2x Barlow lens, this kit comes with all you need to get started straight away. Both eyepieces are fully coated for increased light transmission. The 25mm eyepiece provides a 40x magnification that is ideal for locating objects. The 10mm then provides a 100x magnification to provide more detailed observations of objects such as our Moon’s craters and the rings of Saturn. Use the 2x Barlow lens to double the magnification power of both eyepieces, ultimately resulting in a 80x and 200x magnification.
Portable to Dark Sky locations
The StarSense Explorer is incredibly portable. Whilst it can be used very successfully in light-polluted areas such as towns and cities, it will provide the best results in darker locations. Weighing just 4kg, take this with you to the most remote dark sky locations, on camping trips or weekends away with no issue.

FAQs
Who is this telescope best for?
The 114AZ telescope is a great, family-friendly telescope that combines award-winning star finding technology with a budget to suit you. It makes a great starter telescope for any amateur astronomer and it will grow with you as your skills in astronomy develop.
What other accessories do I need?
This telescope kit comes with everything you need to get started. However, if you are looking to already expand your kit we recommend the Celestron Observer’s Accessory Kit or the Celestron Astromaster Accessory Kit to convert you into a real astronomy hobbyist.
Which filters can I use with the eyepieces?
The eyepieces can take any 1.25” eyepieces. Why not check out the Celestron Lunar and Planetary Filter Set - 1.25" to get the most out of your telescope and view the planets in even greater detail.
Solar Warning
- Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
- Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
- Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.
