Celestron PowerTank Lithium

Power your telescope on the go with the Celestron PowerTank Lithium battery pack. Composited from Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) this battery has significant advantages over others in the market. Its hazard-free design will automatically shut off when insufficient current flow is detected to prevent the battery from draining, it can withstand higher temperatures compared to lithium-ion batteries and will not be a fire danger if accidentally punctured.

High-quality battery

The LiFePO4 has significant advantages over other batteries available to buy today. It has an un-recharged shelf life of 10 years compared to 3 years for Lithium Iron batteries and just 6-9 months Sealed Lead-Acid. The lithium phosphate degrades at a much slower pace than other chemistries meaning that this battery will last as long as the telescope it’s used with. This battery from Celestron can also be charged and discharged 2000 times which is four times more than a Lithium Iron battery.

Environmentally friendly

The Celestron PowerTank Lithium uses phosphates instead of environmentally hazardous elements such as cobalt or lead that is commonly found in other rechargeable batteries.

Sidelight and charging device

As well as powering your telescope, the PowerTank Lithium can also be used as a portable power pack for charging smartphones, tablets, GPS systems, cameras and other USB-powered electronics whilst you are outside.

A sidelight panel offers a red or white light with two brightness colours to help view star charts or telescope settings. Use the red light when using a telescope to maintain dark adaption in your eyes, preventing strain. The white light is then best used when brighter light is needed or during other outdoor adventures such as camping trips.

FAQs

Why is a red flashlight good for astronomy?

A red light is used to maintain dark adaption for nighttime viewing. This means that when moving to view items such as a star chart or your telescope settings you are not requiring your pupils to contract and dilate as you switch between artificial light and the darkness of the night sky. A red light is chosen for this use because of where it falls on the visible light spectrum that allows the photoreceptors in our eyes to be able to see in very low light levels.

Can this charge my smartphone whilst powering the telescope?

Absolutely. The Celestron PowerTank Lithium can be used to power any mobile device including smartphones and tablets. It contains enough battery power to fully recharge a smartphone whilst also powering your telescope.
