Three Cameras in One

Broadcast Production Camera – Sharing the same control positions as many ENG cameras, the G2 is easy to pick up and use straight away. Locate the buttons by feel for a tactile and intuitive approach to broadcast cinematography. A built-in Timecode Generator allows for multi-cam editing by syncing all the equipment on set.

Live Studio Camera – With a B4 lens mount pre-installed this camera uses broadcast quality B4 lenses. An advanced YRGB colour corrector is built-in along with full remote control of the camera. An additional focus and zoom demand is optional for lens control from the tripod handles. Additionally, the G2 features a Program Video Monitoring (PGM) button that allows the camera display to switch to the program return feed from the switcher. 

Digital Cinema Camera – Achieve a true “Hollywood” look with this 6K digital film sensor. With stunning dynamic range, excellent low light capacity and Blackmagic RAW video files that can process 3D LUTs, the G2 makes a fantastic quality digital film camera. All achieved through the PL Mount that can be used for digital film lenses or Canon EF lenses.

Capture cinematic shots in 6K and maintain the flexibility to crop in for intense visuals. The ability to use digital cinematic quality for television and other broadcast purposes is revolutionary in the industry. 

Further to recording in 4K and 6K, choose to work in both 1080HD or Ultra HD. When working in HD the high-resolution sensor allows pixel image processing for superior anti-aliasing and sharp images. 

Compatible with B4 Broadcast Lenses

The URSA Broadcast G2 is compatible with a wide range of cinema and photography lenses for an adaptable workflow. With the 4K B4 lens mount pre-installed mount Ultra HD or standard HD Lenses. This lens mount includes optics that are specifically designed to match the camera’s sensor. Alternatively, swap to the included EF Mount to use your collection of Canon EF and F lenses. 

Exceptional Low Light Performance

Capture true environmental ambience. Shoot using ambient and natural light, or even under the moonlight. The 6K sensor has an ISO gain from -12dB (100 ISO) up to +36dB (25,600 ISO) for an optimised reduction in grain while maintaining full dynamic range. 

The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for studio lighting. The secondary high base ISO of 3200 is then ideal for shooting in dimly lit environments. The gain can be set via a camera switch, the LCD menu or remotely using the SDI remote camera control protocol.

Latest Generation 5 Colour Science

Featuring Blackmagic’s latest Generation 5 Colour Science, the URSA Broadcast G2 delivers the same imaging technology as the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K. This enhanced colour science portrays accurate skin tones and faithful colour reproduction.

The new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve has been designed to capture more colour data. The colour science handles some of the complex Blackmagic RAW image processing, so that colour and dynamic range data from the sensor is preserved via the metadata for use in post-production.

Incredible Blackmagic RAW Quality

Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary video format that is designed to capture and preserve sensor data from your camera in incredibly small file sizes. It is able to retain the original sensor details as well as camera settings and metadata. These settings, such as ISO, White Balance and Exposure, can then be edited, adjusting the actual file in DaVinci Resolve for a clean base edit.

The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 runs Blackmagic OS. This intuitive and user friendly operating system is fast to learn whether you are new to Blackmagic cameras or highly experienced. Based on the latest technology all camera features run independently for smoother control, and the camera powers on almost instantly.

Common Media and File Formats

Purposefully designed to work with standard file formats that are used by all broadcast systems and editing software. This decision allows for your work to be compatible with all types of workflows. Record in ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 422 into QuickTime. You can even record into H.265 for incredibly small files at 60:1 to 285:1 compression ratios in 10-bit broadcast quality.

Lightweight Body with Professional Features

With a strong and lightweight magnesium alloy body, the G2 is balanced for comfortable all-day use. The large selection of externally mounted switches and controls grant direct access to the most important camera settings, with a logical control layout for location via feel. 

Monitor live feeds and adjust menu settings from the foldout LCD touchscreen. Three Fn buttons are located on the camera body for assigning functions such as Zebra, False Colour and LUTs. The LCD screen is backlit for a clear display in all environments.

The URSA Broadcast G2 features dual media slots for non-stop recording. With space for both CFast 2.0 and SD/UHS-II cards, you can choose which media is best for you. For continuous recording, the G2 will automatically switch to the next memory card when the first is full.

For recording to external devices, a high-speed USB-C expansion port allows connection to external SSD disks. This is best used when recording in ProRes, H.265 or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files for a streamlined post-production workflow.

Built-In Optical ND Filters

Built into the camera are a choice of 1/4, 1/16, 1/64 stop filters, designed specifically to match the image sensor and colour science of the URSA Broadcast G2. These high-quality neutral density filters quickly reduce the amount of light entering the camera, providing the option to use different combinations of aperture and shutter modes. 

In addition, the ND filters provide additional latitude and colourimetry, and the IR filters have been designed to evenly filter optical and IR wavelengths, eliminating IR contamination.

Load Custom 3D LUTs

See the final look of the video as you shoot. With 17 industry-standard LUTs, and 33 point 3D LUT files to overlay you can be assured that what you see is what you get. Choose to apply the LUTs temporarily or record them into the Blackmagic RAW file for use in post-production. 

Standard Television Industry Connections

On the camera, you will find a large choice of industry-standard connections. These connectors aid in supporting video at all broadcast frame rates.

12G-SDI:  for video output and return program feed input, this multi-rate connection allows for easy switches between all HD and Ultra HD formats, up to 2160p60.

Front-Mounted 12 Pin Hirose: this connector is for broadcast lens control.

HD-SDI or 4 pin XLR 12V DC: connects a viewfinder or monitor to the camera.

Other connections include a headphone jack, USB-C, balanced XLR audio with phantom power and a timecode/reference input. 

Get Studio Camera Control VIA SDI 

Control all the cameras in your arsenal via the Blackmagic Design ATEM switchers. These use a protocol embedded in the cameras video connections to broadcast control commands from the switcher’s SDI control. Manage features such as image colour and gain separately from the camera operator, leaving everyone to do their job.

Focus and Zoom Demands

An optional focus and zoom demand allows the use of photography lenses to be used for live video production. Connect the focus and zoom demands via the camera electronic lens control. Each zoom and focus demand has 2 USB-C ports for daisy-chaining. When using these demands the connection guarantees very fine lens control, allowing you to make minute frame and lens adjustments without taking your hands off the tripod handles.

Professional Audio Connections and Built-In Microphones

The G2 comes complete with a high-quality microphone and professional audio recorder built-in. The stereo microphone allows the connection of an additional external mic, if necessary, via an XLR connection with 48V phantom power. 

Wireless Bluetooth Camera Remote Control

Featuring Bluetooth for remote camera control up to 30 feet away. There are multiple options on how to control the camera, including via the Blackmagic Camera Control app for iPad, or via third-party apps. Alternatively, create your own remote control using the free developer SDK with sample code available from the Blackmagic Design developer website.

Includes Davinci Resolve Studio

Included with the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is the full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio. Get professional editing, colour correction, audio post, VFX and more with DaVinci, the same software used in Hollywood studios.

What is the benefit of a B4 lens?

Owing to their par-focal construction, filming with B4 lenses offers a range of advantages to digital cinematography and broadcasting. They are able to retain focus on one point of the image as the lens is zoomed in and out. This means that you do not need to constantly chase focus as you shoot, ultimately allowing you to work more effectively.

Compatible with Industry Standard Batteries

All Blackmagic URSA cameras support a wide range of battery plates. A V-lock battery plate is installed on the camera however you have the option to change to a Blackmagic URSA Gold Battery Plate. Alternatively, a 4 pin XLR power connector support 12V-18V for connecting external power supplies and batteries.
