What is a UV filter?

Here at Clifton Cameras, we stock a wide range of UV Filters. These Ultraviolet filters are used to both filter out ultraviolet rays from the sun and to add a layer of protection. While more modern digital cameras do filter out most ultraviolet light, adding another layer of protection can help reduce any potential damage caused to your lens by dust and other particulates.

These filters are created with high-grade optical glass, as seen in the Leica Filter UVa II E43 - Black. This high standard material helps to reduce the loss of image quality that might occur with UV filters made from substandard optical glass.

Have you ever spent hours trying to retouch your photos because of unwanted lens flare and stray light?

Stray light can have a negative effect on your photography. Adding a UV filter like the Hoya HD Nano II 55m UV Filter equipped with black rimmed glass reduces the chance of light reflecting off the edge.

How to attach a UV filter and what is the right size for you?

Easily attach these filters to the front of your lens, simply match up the filter thread size with your lens. Often you can quickly look up this information by checking the inside of your lens cap. We have UV filters available in a number of different sizes from 35mm, including a standard 55mm UV filter, all the way to 105mm.
