Pentax 50mm f1.4 Pentax-D HD FA SDM AW Lens - Main Features & Our Thoughts
New-generation, high-performance Star-series lens
With a large f1.4 maximum aperture this lens has been developed as a new-generation member of the high-performance Star Series. The Star Series is a lineup which is designed to deliver extra-clear, high-contrast images with edge-to-edge sharpness by compensating various aberrations to a minimum. With is wide f1.4 aperture this lens creates fantastic bokeh, seen with the likes of the Canon L Series lens, which is very impressive.
State-of-the-art optical technology
Pentax have created this lens with their start of the art Aero Bright Coating II, which is a lens coating that features nanotechnology providing a super-low refractive film fabrication process (in other words, it reduces surface glare/reflections/ghosting). Since it minimizes distortion even at a focusing distance of approximately one meter, it produces crisp, distortion-free images over the entire focusing range, from the minimum focusing distance to infinity.
Dustproof, weather-resistant construction
The one thing you can rely on, is that Pentax will always release weather resistant/dust proof lenses, and this lens is no exception. This lens features a dependable dustproof, weather-resistant structure with eight special seals to prevent the intrusion of water and dust into the lens interior. Giving you confidence to shoot in all weather conditions, especially when you pair it with a Pentax K Series Camera will you have a kit that performs superbly in demanding settings, even in rain or mist, or at locations prone to water splashes or spray.
Newly developed ring-type SDM
For those who don't know what SDM means, it's Supersonic Direct-drive Motor. Now the SDM is built into a selected range of high performance Pentax lenses. However, in this instance, this lens has received an up to date SDM system (a new ring type placed within the motors). Which Pentax states; "Generates as much as 7.5 times the torque of the conventional SDM installed in existing lenses. Thanks to this enormous driving power, the lens assures a smooth, high-speed shift of the heavy, multi-element rear lens group during focusing operation." Sounds impressive!
