You will be able to capture landscapes, wildlife, and aircraft with ease and no need for a digiscoping setup. With the Nikon P1000 125x optical zoom, you will have a focal length of 3000mm, which is currently the world's longest focal length. You will be able to extend that to 250x using the Dynamic Fine Zoom feature. Meaning you can achieve a digitally extended focal length of 6000mm! Create incredible shots through the cameras' ultra high-definition (approx. 2,360k-dot) electronic viewfinder and review them on the bright 3.2in 921K-dot LCD monitor. The LCD monitor can be tilted and twisted in almost any direction. This camera features a sensor that automatically switches from live view shooting to the viewfinder when raised to your eye.
Create 4K Super-Telephoto Movies
The 4K super-telephoto films are fantastic. The P1000 records 4K/UHD 30p at extended focal lengths with ease resulting in amazing footage! The camera features a clean HDMI out too so you're able to output your videos to an external monitor.
This camera has a new feature called ‘Superlapse’ which allows you to create fast-motion sequences of changing landscapes like the path of the moon or the clouds floating over a mountain range. The camera also has a mic jack for external audio recording devices.

Nikon’s VR will compensate for camera shake, allowing you to capture steady photos even when shooting handheld at telephoto lengths. The dual detect optical Vibration Reduction system lets you shoot up to five stops slower at extended focal lengths, even in low light situations, without the risk of under-exposing stills or movies.
When VR Active mode is on the P1000 delivers a stable viewfinder and monitor image, perfect for when you are on the move. Whether it’s a condor spotted from the back of a Jeep or a breaching whale seen from the deck of a boat—you’ll be able to compose the perfect image.
Creative shooting modes
Capture the moon in each one of it Lunar phases with Nikon's built-in ‘Moon Mode’. Moon mode increases the sensitivity of the camera's sensor and adjusts exposure settings to best suit astrophotography. Bird-watching mode optimises the camera's settings to make capturing swift-moving wildlife a breeze. Use ‘Bulb’ and ‘Time Shooting modes’ to hold the shutter open for up to 60 seconds, excellent for long exposures and shooting city lights at night. Alternatively, try your hand at developing unique images with Multiple Exposure modes in which you overlay three shots on top of one another.

What is the difference between the Nikon Coolpix P1000 vs Nikon Coolpix P900?
Well to start with, there has been a big improvement to the optical system of the Nikon P1000 compared to the Nikon P900. The P900 has 83x Optical zoom whereas the P1000 now has 125x. This means there has been an increase in focal length from 24mm–2000mm (P900) to 24mm-3000mm (P1000).
The P1000 image sensor is the same as the P900 but the lens has a wider aperture range. The P1000 has a variable aperture of f2.8-8, rather than its predecessor's f2.8-6.5. That's to be expected when adding an additional 1000mm to your focal range. Battery life has decreased from approximately 360 to 250 shots but with good reason.
The P1000 now shoots 4K UHD video up to 30fps! Which will, of course, have an effect on battery life. You will be able to shoot 4K video, up to a focal length of approximately 1200mm. The Nikon P1000 also has a movie ISO of 100-1600. But that not all, the Nikon Coolpix P1000 now shoot RAW images, making it the perfect companion for DSLR users!
