Leica Summaron-M 28mm f5.6 ASPH Lens - Silver Chrome

The Leica M can be used with a multitude of lenses that go far beyond those available from the current portfolio. Frequently photographers use lenses with a "vintage" signature to achieve particular effects that are diffficult to reproduce, even with the most up-to-date digital postprocessing software.

The 50-year old Summaron wide-angle is a popular and compact lens that has now been recreated with an M-bayonet mount, 6-bit coding, and revised design. It cannot be mistaken or reproduced by digital means and make the lens a true classic that is now reborn in a revisited edition with unchanged optical design.

The lens has a unqiue character due to the extreme depth of field, natural contrast, rendition of details and visible vignetting. Photos taken with the Summaron-M have a look reminscent of analog photography.

An Homage to the Fine Art of Engineering: The lens hood conjures up memories of the early days of rangefinder photography.
      • Its design and the elaborate manufacturing processes that went into its construction have been recreated to match the historic ancestry of the Summaron-M.

Extensive manufacturing process

The Leica Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 is manufactured in Germany from only the best materials and is assembled completely by hand. The lens hood is first machined from solid brass and then given its ultimate form by a turning and bending process. The turning also cuts the numerous grooves on the inner surface of the lens hood.

  • hoods being treated, and made to be black
