A World First
Tamron prides itself on being a specialist in the all-in-one zoom category and now this new lens, designed for the Fujifilm X Mount, marks a world first. Singling out Tamron as a company dedicated to continuing to create lenses for APS-C mirrorless cameras.
Macro Capabilities
Featuring an impressive minimum object distance of 0.15m at the 18mm wide end, and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, this lens is set to perform exceptionally well in close up photography.
Ultra-Telephoto
Not just for close-ups, the 300mm focal length at the long end is impressive and highly useful. Supported by Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (VC), the lens creates stable photography throughout the entire focal range.
Best in Class
The 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD boasts an array of the best qualities for its class including fast and precise AF driven by a VXD linear motor focus and all-around image quality.
Compact and Comfortable
Although we don’t have the lens dimensions just yet the lens certainly looks compact and comfortable to hold, especially for an 18-300mm focal range. It certainly won’t look out of place or off-balanced when mounted to a cropped sensor camera.
User-friendly features
This new lens boasts a host of features to make it as user friendly as possible including the ever-important moister-resistance construction, fluorine-coated lens elements, a 67mm filter thread and a zoom lock switch which is very handy when setting up a shot.
First thoughts?
At first glance, this lens looks as though it could be highly useful. An 18-300mm focal length will cover just about anything you throw at it, and while the aperture isn’t fixed, it can be opened to F3.5 at the wide end which will create pleasing depth in its images. Although we don’t have the full spec sheet just yet, the news that third-party companies are now developing lenses for Fujifilm sounds very promising and it will be interesting to see what else they have up their sleeve.
Now just to wait for the full announcement!
