Robust and compact design
The 500mm f/5.6 can be used in harsher weather conditions thanks to its weather-resistant structure, while also comprising a compact and lightweight design for a telephoto lens at 1,375g.
Optical excellence
The lens has 21 elements in 14 groups, including 5 ED glass elements and 2 Super-ED glass elements, minimising chromatic aberration and giving extremely sharp, detailed rendering that is compatible with high pixel-count digital cameras. At 500mm focal length, the lens has a 35mm format equivalent of 396mm. The GF500mm f5.6 offers 16 steps of aperture control from f5.6 to f32, helping capture as much light as possible in darker environments.
Silent and smooth operation
The lens features a linear motor for silent operation that won’t disrupt nature photographers. To further prevent shot disruption the GF500mm is also rear-weighted for better manoeuvrability when panning. Added to this, the lens feet are Arca Swiss compatible for quick assembly of your gear.
Sharp focus
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 2.75m, allowing you to get very close to wildlife subjects and capture stunning images. Additionally, the lens has a focus limiter and focus memory functions. These features restrict the focusing range to specific distances, either very near or very far away. By limiting the range of focus, the lens does not waste time searching through the entire focusing range, improving the focusing speed and accuracy when photographing subjects at the preset near or far distances.
Plus, the lens has a Focus Preset button and a Focus Control button for smooth and user-friendly AF operation.
6-Stops image stabilisation
The lens has a robust image stabilisation system with 6.0 stops of shake compensation. This allows you to comfortably shoot handheld at super-telephoto focal lengths where camera shake is typically a big issue.
